GDLN
Newsletter Editorial Policy

Overview
The GDLN Newsletter is a communications tool of, and for, all GDLN affiliates,
prospective affiliates, and occasional users of GDLN, as well as the development
community at large. The Newsletter aims to keep readers up-to-date with
network growth and membership, technological advances, policies, and personnel,
as well as distance learning pedagogy and development-related learning
and knowledge initiatives and events. The Newsletter is edited and disseminated
by GDLN Services.

Title
The GDLN Newsletter title will be selected from suggestions submitted
by readers, taking into account the need for a title that translates into
the network’s current three working languages (English, French and Spanish).

Publications Schedule
The Newsletter is distributed electronically, and is publicly available
via the GDLN website at www.gdln.org,
four times a year (January, April, July, October).

Content
The Newsletter content is solicited from all members and a wide variety
of views is encouraged. Subjects covered by the Newsletter include:

  • News and views
    from GDLN affiliates
  • Notices of events
  • Profiles of affiliated
    organizations
  • Profiles of individuals
    working for the network
  • Interviews with
development specialists and distance learning experts
  • Coverage of courses,
Development Dialogues, and other learning activities undertaken by GDLN
  • Discussions and
profiles of the use of distance learning technologies
  • Discussion and
examples of effective distance learning pedagogy
  • Guest editorials
  • Management, policy,
and operational developments and guidance from GDLN Services
  • Letters to the
    editor

Articles should be
a maximum of 300 words in length, and written and/or edited to a style
that is clear and accessible. Publication is at the decision of the editors
and submissions, including photographs, remain the property of GDLN.

Language
Because GDLN is an international network currently working in three languages,
the newsletter will be issued in English, French and Spanish. This policy
will be revisited should the working languages of the network be expanded.
Contributions to the Newsletter may be submitted in any of the working
languages and the editors will arrange for translation. However, contributors
are encouraged to submit articles and announcements with translations
whenever possible. This ensures authors are satisfied with the quality
of the translations and reduces the time and resource burden to GDLN Services.

Contributions from
GDLN affiliates

An important aim of the GDLN Newsletter is to publish articles that reflect
and communicate the network’s international scope, its innovative use
of technology in knowledge and learning programs, and wide range of interests
in development issues. Three to four weeks ahead of each publication date,
we will invite GDLN affiliates to submit their ideas and articles to ensure
as wide a coverage of the network’s activities and development as possible.
Articles submitted by GDLN affiliates will be published under the by-line
of the author.

Outside contributions

Outside contributions, including letters, from individuals and organizations
not affiliated with GDLN will be considered for publication by the editors.
Contributions should be no more than 300 words and relate to the issues
of concern to GDLN. The editors reserve the right to edit submissions.
